More information : Acclaimed Torontonian and nightclub owner, Oliver Geddes, is approaching his tenth year of success in the nightclub industry with his latest project The Fifth, located at 1045 5th St. in South Beach. After building what has been described as the "new nightlife palace of Miami", Geddes immediately acquired nightclub legend Gerry Kelly (renowned for bringing the glitz and glamour to his over the top parties) as his marketing partner.

Born into the entertainment/hospitality industry, Oliver Geddes began his stream of successes in the business at a young age when his family opened Toronto’s most successful and currently Toronto’s longest running lounge/club, The Easy. He honed his skills working every facet of the business, working as a busboy, a bartender, at the door, and in management.

The following year, 1997, the Geddes family opened The Fifth, an elegant and exclusive French restaurant located five floors above the club which has enjoyed ’Restaurant of the Year’ status three times in the last five years. These businesses continue today and form what Geddes refers to as “the backbone of our company.” Only recently, The Easy & The Fifth were renovated and revitalized and then morphed into, The Fifth Social Club Toronto and The Fifth Restaurant.

Following the success of The Easy and The Fifth, Oliver went on to open two more nightclubs in Toronto, Money in December of 1998 and This Is London in November of 1999. With a degree in Business/Economics from Bishops University and the wealth of knowledge he accrued working in the family business, Oliver quickly established a reputation as the market leader in the nightclub industry in Toronto. Paying attention to every little detail, Geddes focused on VIP service and innovative creations. With monthly thematic fetes ranging from sand-covered floors and live camels for Moroccan inspiration, ice statues and indoor skating rinks for a winter wonderland experience, his trailblazing nightclubs attracted a discriminating few, a group of well-to-do professionals and successful entrepreneurs fortunate enough to participate in the ultimate party.

At 30, almost a decade after the opening of his first venue, the acclaimed nightclub trendsetter, Oliver Geddes, expands his exclusive stable of über-chic nightclub destinations to the US with the opening of The Fifth, Miami on March 17, 2006. "We've got the best room in South Beach and part of the 'theme' of the Fifth Miami is to create a particular ambience in that room that feels like you are partying at a friend’s, who just happens to live in an incredible house." Geddes' mission is to take the Fifth brand to different markets in both the US and abroad.

Gerry Kelly:

Having established himself as an international fashion designer and nightclub entrepreneur at the helm of the famed PACHA Empire, Gerry Kelly was the face behind legendary over-the-top parties in Europe. In 1993, commissioned to America by the lead singer of the famed Simply Red group, Mick Hucknel, Kelly headed Bash in South Beach, a nightclub opened with partner Sean Penn. Kelly's European influence at Bash was noticeable as he debuted an exclusive VIP room complete with bottle service, super models, celebrities and a velvet rope that rivaled the former Studio 54. After much success with the European concept, Kelly left Bash (1997) and began work on a new space, Shadow Lounge. The Lounge was at the forefront of music and fashion, and during Kelly’s leadership Details Magazine named the lounge “Best Club in America.”

In 1998 Kelly worked alongside Miami nightlife legend Chris Pacellio. Offering his talents, Kelly ran the multi-million dollar BarRoom and aided with Pacellio’s conglomerations of über trendy restaurant Joia and hotspot Liquid. Kelly was placed at the lead, accommodating celebrities like Madonna, Naomi Campbell, N’Sync, Donatella Versace and Puff Daddy as regular patrons. In 1999 Kelly made a decision to bid on one of the largest nightclub’s in Florida. In 1999 the bid was accepted, jump-starting Kelly’s millennium with his new concept, Level. Part of a joint venture, complimented by four other partners, Kelly was the powerhouse behind 40,000 square feet of pristine Art Deco theatre, six different levels, nine exclusive VIP rooms and the most coveted DJ's in the world. The twenty-five internationally recognized awards, including best club, best sound and best lighting hardly compared to the magic of America’s elite including benefits hosted by President Bill Clinton.
After celebrating four years with one of Miami’s finest nightclubs and having been awarded "Best Club of the Year" by Miami New Times, Gerry Kelly sold Level to partner with Cecile Barker to bring State to South Beach. State was set to be an ultra chic lounge located on Lincoln Road and opened in January of 2003. Lavishly decorated with couture gowns designed by Kelly himself, this hip night spot became favorite to music talents Jay-Z, Lil’ Kim, Beyonce, P. Diddy Combs, Busta Rhymes, Jada Kiss and Cierra. Shortly after, on November 11th, 2005 Gerry opened Shine at The Shelborne. Kelly’s partnership with well-known former DJ talent Jon Cowan made Shine an outstanding success.
