The Sky Room, which boasts 360 degree views of Manhattan and the Hudson River from the city's highest rooftop lounge, aims to take New York City nightlife to the next level. Occupying the 33rd and 34th Floor of the newly constructed Fair field Inn and Suites by Marriott Times Square, the bi-level ultra lounge will transport guests to a high energy oasis atop 40th Street and offer five distinct spaces: the Times Square Lounge, the Cube balcony, the Private Salon, the North terrace with its retractable roof, and the South Terrace with its private cabanas.
Combining unique design and a blend of elegance and comfort, the 5,000 square-foot venue is inspired by its surrounding environment. To unify the space, renowned architect Stephen B. Jacobs and affiliate interior designer Andi Pepper, who are widely known for their work with the Gansevoort, Library and Giraffe hotels, created a coffered ceiling featuring LED lighting that will serve as a stylized abstraction of Times Square - mimicking an aerial view of the intersection of Broadway and 7th Avenue. For the entrance space, the team drew inspiration from photographs of streaming taillights in moving traffic, which is reflected in the colored light installation of the backlit bar. The bar is positioned so that the unobstructed view of the NYC skyline serves as a breathtaking backdrop. These elements aim to create a firm link between the Sky Room and Times Square. Jacobs notes, "The challenge was to unify all the various spaces spanning over 2 buildings. We met the challenge using the pulsating rhythm of Times Square as our inspiration."
The interior and exterior spaces of the venue are thoughtfully designed, incorporating exciting and eccentric elements to provide an enhanced nightlife experience sure to leave a memorable impression on anyone who steps through the Sky Room's elevator doors. Jacobs and Pepper employed a carefully selected mix of hard and soft materials to control the acoustics and brought in custom made furniture, designed specifically for the space.
The north terrace on the 34th floor will provide a comfortable environment all year round with a fully retractable glass roof cover and panoramic glass walls, offering stunning views of the Times Square area. One standout highlight of the venue is the South Terrace on the 2nd level, which features illuminated furniture and flush lit floor tiles amidst a lush landscape, set up to offer a luxurious space where guests can truly enjoy being in the heart of Manhattan, with views of the Hudson River and the Empire State Building.
