Katra, a new Moroccan themed restaurant and lounge, is located at 217 Bowery in one of Manhattan's foremost up and coming neighborhoods. David Casey, along with his partners from the flatiron district’s Indian inspired hot spot, Taj Lounge, have again collborated to add this distinctive cultural experience to New York nightlife. By wanting to conjure the same warm, exotic and sexy atmosphere that makes one dream of far way places, they have used the Moroccan blueprint, given it a modern twist and coupled it with the delicious taste of Franco-Moroccan fusion cuisine. Elmo comfortably seats 80 ror dinner and holds 300 for cocktails or private events.

Katra's, contemporary design is accentuaded by traditional Middle Eastern/Moroccan decor. The interior, designed by Lesley Zamor (Taj Lounge, Ixte). incorporates one of a kind lishting fixtures and furnishings all imported from Morocco. Starting with the oversized hand-crafted vases to the striking lighting to the wall mounted rugs assembled by Berber artisans in the Atlas Mountains. each piece bas been hand chosen to invoke a sumnptuous and we1lcoming surrounding. The seating consists of authentie "Matias" fabric on hand carved wooden platforms accented with hand woven pillows. The intimacy is augmcoted by 1hc searl private booths divided by impressive Moroccan star wood screens.

Katra's cuisine conceptualizes the synthesis of flavors and spices from traditional Middle Eastem/Moroccan fare with the lasting influence of French cuisine on the culture. This innovative balance is achieved by consulting Chef Jonathan Lindenauer (Jean Georges, Taj Lounge). His imagination and expertise in fusion cooking has created a tapas style menu that will be the envy of "fuodies" (whatewer they are!). Dishes include sweel, crunchy Spiced Almonds. seasoned witb ooriander, cinnamon, olove, ginger, and pepper. Clliel Pea S.W with red onion, pickled red pepper, lemon, cumin and mint as appetizers and entrees such as a traditional Lamb Tagine and Margues Sausage Sandwich.
